Kenneth "Kenny" Paul Zimmerman, formerly of Buffalo, New York, and currently of Troy, New York, passed away peacefully at home following a courageous six-year battle with cancer.
Raised in Buffalo, Ken proudly served in the United States Army in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. His military service was a source of pride to him and his family.
Ken was a man of exceptional practical intelligence, remarkable talent, and a quick-witted sense of humor. A skilled mechanic and a true craftsman at heart, he possessed a natural ability to work with his hands. Whether repairing a car or motorcycle, restoring an antique, building something from scratch, or fixing just about anything, there was very little Ken couldn't do. His passion for antiques and history eventually led him to own and operate his own antique business for more than 25 years.
Beyond his many talents, Ken had a special affection for animals, particularly his beloved cats. He also took great pride in his family, and especially cherished his grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ella and Helmut Zimmerman; his stepmother, Mary Ann Zimmerman; his brother, Larry Thorne; and his sister, Peggy Kennedy.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona (Rodino) Zimmerman; his children, Jessica Zimmerman, Esq., and Joseph Zimmerman, MD (Sharon Lee, MD); his grandchildren, Joseph and Annabelle Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Kenny in Sacred Heart Church 310 Spring Avenue at 11:15am on Monday November 9th with interment immediately following in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may visit with Kenny's family prior to the mass in the church from 9:15am until 11:10am.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Albany Stratton VA Medical Center.
