Judith "Judy" A. Curtin

August 29, 1937 — April 1, 2022

Curtin, Judith Ann (Joyce) – Troy

Judith Curtin, formerly of Troy, NY and Harwich, MA, left this world on April 1, 2022. She was born on August 29, 1937 in Pittsfield, MA to Paul J. Joyce and Rita Jane (Frawley) Joyce.  Judy graduated as salutatorian from St. Joseph’s High School in Pittsfield. She then went on to graduate from St. Luke’s Nursing School, Pittsfield, MA.

Judy married the love of her life, John E. Curtin in 1957, honeymooning on Cape Cod, where she and John returned yearly and bought a summer home in retirement.  She loved going out to eat at seafood restaurants, taking walks on the beach with John and her dog, Lady, and entertaining her extended family.   Judy started her life as a Navy bride, living in Newport, RI, Key West, FL, Nantucket, MA and Newfoundland, Canada before they settled in Troy, NY when John landed a job with New York State.  They raised six children, Mary K. (Kate) Curtin Malone (Bob) of Westford, MA, Susan M. Curtin (Peter Miller) of Wakefield, MA, John E. Curtin, Jr. (Kathleen) of East Greenbush, Robert B. Curtin (Laura) of Wynantskill, NY, Michael P. Curtin (Nancy) of Strafford, NH, and William D. Curtin (Suzanne) of Lumberton, NJ.  All the children were educated at Sacred Heart School and Catholic Central High School of Troy, NY.  Judy was active in her children’s education, volunteering at Sacred Heart School.

Judy was predeceased by her husband John, her grandson Brian R. Curtin, her brother Rev. James K. Joyce, and her sister-in-law Patricia Joyce. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Martha Huggins (William) of Pittsfield, and three brothers, Joseph P. Joyce of Hatfield, PA., Philip F. Joyce (Michael Oatman) of Ellenton, FL. and Peter D. Joyce (Wendy) of Ellenton, FL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Nana Judy loved her “babies” and was often the first to visit her grandchildren when they were born.  She was there to cook meals and help clean. She especially enjoyed spending time helping with the babies and their older siblings.  She loved helping her children’s families and was loved by her 21 grandchildren: Laura (Scott Sawyer), Susan, Theresa (Thomas Romano) and Patrick Malone; Francis, David, Timothy and Katie Miller; John (Andrea Underhill-Curtin), Jimmy, Matthew and Andrew Curtin; Colleen, Brian and Kevin Curtin (fiancée Lauren Venesy); Megan, Sarah (fiancé Nicholas Shuckrow) and Lauren Curtin; and Leah, Billy and Tommy Curtin.  She also loved her great grandchildren Alexander and Christopher Sawyer and Ryan Romano, and delighted in seeing the latest photos.

Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Avenue, Troy, 9:30- 10:15 AM, Friday April 8th followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM.
