Janice Ann Krogh - Troy

On Wednesday July 6, 2022, the world lost a silent hero, Janice “Jan” Krogh, 70, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at her home in Troy, NY.  Jan was born in Troy, NY on June 24, 1952 the daughter of the late Robert O'Hare and Helen Colaneri O’Hare.  She graduated Catholic Central High School in 1970 and earned her nursing degree from Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing.  She was united in marriage to Robert Krogh on May 14th, 1977, in St. Francis de Sales Church in Troy, NY.

Her entire lifetime, up to her last day, was dedicated to caring for people.  She enjoyed 47 fulfilling years as a nurse at Albany Medical Center where she spent most of her career treating and bringing comfort to cancer patients in the Oncology and Hematology unit.  Over her career she must have saved, cared for and comforted tens of thousands of patients, however the true number will never be known because her modest and unassuming nature never lent her to talking about it.  Her passion for caring for others also extended to her family, caring for her siblings at a young age after the untimely passing of her father, and as the quintessential sports mom, she never missed a game and ensured all five children were at the right practice at the right time.  It is said she may unofficially hold the world record for the most youth sports games watched by a single person, this streak continued as she more recently watched her grandchildren play and her children coach.

When not caring for people, Jan could be found tending to her many flowers and plants, a passion she saw as bringing beauty and life to the world.  Jan also loved to dance, undeterred by her two left feet and lack of rhythm.

Jan is survived by her husband, Robert, five children, Lynn and Vincent of Fly Creek, NY, Robert and Kristin of Wynantskill, NY, Lauren and Daniel of Catskill, NY, Michael, Troy, NY and Matthew, Troy, NY.  She was the beloved “Gramma Jan” to four grandchildren, Vincenza, Lucas, Cameron and Brayden.  Jan is also survived by four siblings Donald and Gail O’Hare of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda and Paul Dumas of Rensselaer, NY, Jo-Ann O’Hare of Middle Grove, NY and Richard O’Hare of Troy, NY; three nieces and a nephew Mary Beth and Mark Ketzer, Annie and Brian Driscoll, Paul Dumas and Kelly O’Hare; several cousins and her sister in-law Sandy Krogh.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Ave, Troy, NY.  Family and friends are invited to visit with Jan’s family on Monday, 4-7 p.m. in the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Ave, Troy, NY. Burial will be Private.  Jan’s life on earth will forever be a constant reminder of how good and selfless people are the cornerstone of our world and proof that in this life, angels truly walk among us.  In honor of Jan’s life dedicated to treating cancer patients, in lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to St. Jude’s Research Hospital at st.jude.org
