Carol Ann Carley

Carol Ann Naylor Carley, 82, passed away on Sunday, October 5th, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong resident of Troy, New York, she was the daughter of James H. Naylor, Sr., and Ursula Foley Naylor, and beloved wife of Edward Michael Carley of Troy for over 59 years.

Carol Ann was raised and educated in Troy, where she graduated from Sacred Heart School and Catholic Central High School, Class of 1961. Proud of her Irish heritage and a member of the LAOH, she served in many offices of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernian, Division 8 in Rensselaer County. This service culminated in 1985 when she was elected as President of the New York State Board and honored by the National Board with life membership.

She lived for over 50 years on Excelsior Avenue in the Eastside of Troy with her husband and two children, Kitty Carley and Michael Carley, enjoying her friendships with her many neighbors on Excelsior Avenue. She was a communicant and a lector at Sacred Heart Church, Troy. Carol Ann was a person of faith.

She was employed by New York State and worked in various agencies, including the Public Service Commission, the NYS Division of Housing & Community Renewal, and the Office of General Services, retiring in 2006. She treasured her family and friends and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to her monthly luncheons with her classmates from grammar school and high school, a true testament to her unwavering loyalty. She loved her co-workers, especially at the Division of Housing and Community Renewal, where she was employed the longest. She enjoyed life, always saw the bright side, often commenting that she had a wonderful life full of love and happiness. She will be missed by many because of her laughter and welcoming smile. She made an impact on many people's lives and left behind a life of unconditional love, kindness, friendship, and religious devotion.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, Edward, include her children, Kitty Carley of Troy, Michael Carley (Lisa) of Clifton Park, five grandchildren, Erin Carley (Kyle Glasheen), Maura Callahan, Mitchel Carley, Catherine Carley, and Leighann Carley, and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Glasheen and Liam Glasheen. One sister, Janice Naylor of Clifton Park, and one brother, Michael (Ann) of Albany, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carol Ann was predeceased by her brother James Naylor.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Carol on Monday October 13th at 10am in St. Michael the Archangel's church on Williams Road in Troy with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Troy immediately following. Family and friends are invited and may visit with Carol's family on Sunday October 12th from 5pm until 7pm in the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Avenue, Troy.
